Should Hampshire Constabulary change its name?

A NEW law will allow the county's police force to change its name.

The move in the Policing & Crime Bill has been welcomed by Hampshire’s police and crime commissioner Simon Hayes.

He wants Hampshire Constabulary’s name to include the Isle of Wight. He said: ‘The island is an integral part of our community.’

But John Apter, chairman of Hampshire Police Federation, said: ‘We need to see in the current financial climate whether changing the name of the constabulary is a priority.’
