Unidentified woman’s body found in water as Hampshire police investigate ‘unexplained’ death

THE body of a woman has been found in water at a park in Southampton - as investigating police say her death is being treated as ‘unexplained’.

Officers are still working to identify the woman, who was found shortly after 9am on Tuesday, August 9.

Emergency services raced to help after receiving reports of a sudden death close to Mayflower Park and the Red Funnel car ferry port.

Hampshire Constabulary said that the woman’s death is being treated as unexplained at this time.

A police spokesperson said: ‘We were called out at 9.11pm on Tuesday (9 August) following reports of a sudden death.

‘The body of a woman was located in the water and her death is being treated as unexplained at this time. Formal identification is yet to take place.

‘We are still in the very early stages of our investigation, and officers are carrying out enquiries to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident.’
