Woman held after man pronounced dead in street from reality TV show
A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was pronounced dead in a road that featured in Channel 4's original Benefits Street series.
The 48-year-old man was found unresponsive in the early hours of Sunday and pronounced dead at his home in James Turner Street, Winson Green, Birmingham.
West Midlands Police said: ‘Although initially thought not to be suspicious, our inquiries have led to the arrest of a 44-year-old woman on suspicion of murder.
‘She is known to the deceased and remains in police custody for questioning.’
Detective Inspector Stuart Mobberley said: ‘We are in the early stages of our investigation and we are speaking to family members to understand what happened prior to the man's death.’
James Turner Street was the subject of the first five-episode series of Benefits Street, broadcast in 2014.
The reality series sparked hundreds of complaints to Ofcom.
