HMS Queen Elizabeth: Royal Navy carrier to leave Portsmouth tomorrow morning

THE HMS Queen Elizabeth will be heading out of Portsmouth Harbour tomorrow.

According to the Queen’s Harbour Master, the HMS Queen Elizabeth will be leaving Portsmouth Naval Base at 8.30am.

This means the carrier should be passing the Round Tower in Old Portsmouth at about 9am.

The £3.1bn aircraft carrier returned to Portsmouth in December following a round of sea trials off the east coast of the United States, which included work with the F-35 Lightning stealth fighter jets.

It will also be the first time that the ship’s new commanding officer, Captain Angus Essenhigh, will take the vessel out of the harbour.

The naval leader is the fourth commander to take charge of the mighty aircraft carrier – and her third in eight months.
