Hide AdLex, who has been in Portsmouth most of her working career, and has served in HMS Westminster, HMS Illustrious, and HMS Enterprise, said: ‘I thought I might as well just give it a go - I wanted to get into it because I used to model part-time as a hobby.
‘I felt that as an older generation we didn’t really have much of a voice when it came to diversity and inclusivity.’
Support and empowerment from the other Diamonds has spurred Lex on in her fundraising for Samaritans and Wellbeing of Women as part of her new role.
The response from friends and family has been overwhelmingly positive, and Lex said: ‘Yes, I’m covered in tattoos, yes I’m in the navy but I have had so much support from everyone.

‘I am blessed to be afforded this opportunity and I hope to be able to fulfil the role that I have been given and make the Diamond family proud.’
As a Leading Writer, Lex’s HR role has seen her travelling around the Mediterranean and she said work has been accommodating in giving her time for this venture.
Lex said: ‘I really enjoy it and I can’t believe it’s been 12 years. It’s an amazing career and the support in the military is amazing.
