A yachtsman who suffered a head injury had to be rescued by lifeboat crews.

Emergency personnel rushed to save the individual on the vessel in the Solent between Osborne Bay and Lee on Solent today He became injured after being hit by the yacht’s boom.

The rescue operation was carried out by Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeboat crews based in Cowes, Isle of Wight.

“The lifeboat took the man, who was conscious, to Trinity Landing at Cowes where after being seen by a local doctor was then driven by car to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport,” the RNLI said.

“The lifeboat launched at 1.45 pm and returned to station at 2.25 pm.”
