This Hampshire city has been dubbed one of the most romantic places in the UK
Romance isn’t dead in this Hampshire city, new data has revealed.
And Portsmouth has been ranked the 13th most romantic place in the country, closely followed by Lincoln, Birmingham and Leeds.

Each area was assessed using nine measurable indicators including:
- Romance-related Google searches
- High-rated romantic restaurants
- Romantic hotels
- Proposal and wedding photographers
- Romantic events
- Wedding venues
- Florists
- Valentine’s card buying signals
- Romance-related Instagram hashtags.
All metrics were normalised per 100,000 residents to ensure fair comparisons between larger cities and smaller historic hubs.
Portsmouth secured an overall score of 25.98, with 35 wedding photographers and 26 romantic restaurants per 100,000 people.
The city also stands out nationally for its florist density, ranking third in the study, suggesting flowers remain a key part of how residents celebrate romance. That is reinforced by solid Valentine card buying signals, where Portsmouth places tenth, alongside healthy interest shown through romance-related Google searches, ranking 14th overall.
Meanwhile, Bath leads the way as the UK’s most romantic city. It ranks first nationally for high-rated romantic restaurants, hotels and events, while also placing second for romance-related Instagram hashtags.
