VANDALS forced the splash pool in Hilsea to be closed on one of the hottest days of the year so far.

Portsmouth City Council had to shut the play area, next to Hilsea Lido, after it was vandalised yesterday.

A spokesman said the splash pool filters were blocked and there was damage to the fittings in the toilets.

David Evans, the council’s leisure and sports facilities manager, said: ‘We were very sad to discover Hilsea splash pool had been vandalised and that the community has been unable to use this family facility for part of half-term.

‘Hopefully this was an isolated incident as usually all of our visitors are very responsible.’

The splash pool should be open tomorrow, weather permitting.
