Gosport Citizens Advice give out winter energy-saving tips

A CITIZENS' advice bureau helped people prepare for winter by making sure they are getting the best deals on offer for gas and electricity.

Gosport Citizens’ Advice set up at the Gosport Market, which took place on the town’s high street yesterday.

The event was part of Big Energy Saving Week, a national campaign run by Citizens’ Advice, Energy Saving Trust (EST) and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

People received tips at the market on cavity wall insulation, draught excluders and double glazing, as well as not leaving the TV on standby or leaving lights on.

Operations manager Valerie Kelly says that Big Energy Saving Week is a ‘great opportunity to get expert advice’ on saving money.

She said: ‘Checking your energy tariff and switching to a cheaper deal is one of the quickest and easiest ways to cut your bills.’

Anyone who was unable to make yesterday’s event can still use Citizens’ Advice’s services online or over the phone.

Ms Kelly added: ‘We would urge everyone to use our price comparison tool or contact our service for advice so they can start making savings.’
