A27 crash: Live updates as Amazon lorry overturns between Havant and Chichester as police warn road could be closed for 'most the day'

Police have closed the A27 in both directions from the Chichester to Emsworth following the incident.

Officers have warned the highway could be closed for ‘most of the day’, sparking misery for commuters.

Huge tailbacks and delays have been building on the route.

The lorry driver has been seriously injured and a car driver who crashed into the lorry has suffered minor injuries – you can read our update here.

Traffic is currently being diverted along the A259 through Emsworth and along routes through Havant.

A spokesman for Hampshire police said: ‘We were called at 5.49am with reports of an overturned lorry on the A27 at Emsworth.

‘Both the eastbound and westbound carriageways are blocked as a result.

‘A recovery operation is underway and the road is likely to remain closed for a number of hours.

‘We would advise motorists to avoid this area and plan an alternative route.’
