Firefighters tackle Gosport kitchen fire

FIREFIGHTERS from Gosport and Fareham were called to a flat fire in Rowner after a chip pan went up in flames.

Two fire appliances were deployed to the flat in Biddlecombe Close after receiving a call at 6.30pm on Saturday. One hose reel and two breathing apparatus were used to tackle the fire.

The female flat owner had ‘done the right thing’ by closing the kitchen door after the fire alarm sounded and phoning the emergency services.

She did not receive any injuries or need treatment for smoke inhalation.

A firefighter who attended the scene said: ‘You should never leave a chip pan unattended and always make sure you have a smoke alarm which works.’
