Dave’s efforts were praised by British Bake-Off. ‘He had the snap,’ a post on Twitter said with it showing how he won star baker this week.

It was a dramatic turnaround after Dave came a disappointing ninth last week after his efforts were accidentally sabotaged by Sura when she knocked his pineapple upside down cakes to the floor while trying to swat a fly.

Despite the blow, Dave told Sura, who went on to claim first place last week: ‘It happens, accidents happen.’

Sura responded: ‘It’s bittersweet because I feel so sad for Dave. I wish it didn’t happen to be honest.’

Dave is now smiling, though, following this week's success.
