A LARGE property fire erupted in Chichester this morning sparking 10 fire engines into action as they battled flames.

The blaze took place in Birdham Road – which was closed off – at around 6.35am and led to calls for people to avoid the area.

Residents were also told to shut doors and windows as smoke billowed across the area.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service posted on social media: ‘Please avoid the area if possible and if you live nearby, remember to keep windows and doors closed.’

A subsequent update at 7.38am then added the ‘fire was under control’.

No injuries have been reported.
