TWO foxes were marooned on a disappearing shingle spit in Gosport yesterday morning as the tide was rapidly coming in.

With their situation becoming increasingly perilous, one of the foxes took the plunge and swam to safety after failing to persuade its mate to do the same.

But the stranded fox, now surrounded by water, was eventually left with no choice and paddled its way to shore – leaving the ‘tail’ with a happy ending.

A woman who watched the drama unfold said: ‘Two foxes trapped on disappearing shingle spit as the tide came in. One kept trying to persuade the other to swim for it but left it to it's own designs but eventually the other did swim to safety.’
