Portsmouth woman's desperate plea to find her missing bushy-tailed cat Bazal

Laura Egan discovered Bazal the cat was missing from her garden in Church Road on Saturday, January 30.

Bazal was an early Christmas gift bought by Laura’s partner Jack Robinson, who hoped the pet would provide some additional affection after Laura’s father died following a heart attack in May.

The 28-year-old said: ‘It’s been stressful. It feels like I’m losing everything. I’ve lost my cat, I’ve just lost my dad. I was very close to my dad, he was all I had really. It’s been very hard.’

While still coming to terms with the death of her father – 68-year-old Steve Egan who worked as a Havant taxi driver – Laura has been scouring her neighbourhood in order to be reunited with her beloved pet.

She said: ‘He just disappeared from the garden.

‘I have rung all the vets in Portsmouth, put out leaflets, knocked on doors, posted on Facebook, been out at midnight looking – I have done everything people have said. I have even rung the highway people to see if he’s been run over.

‘Because of Covid, it’s hard to go looking for him, and he’s not been neutered or chipped yet.’

Now the community carer is hoping that Bazal will be spotted thanks to his distinctive face markings and bushy tail – with his name inspired by the equally bushy tailed character Basil Brush.

She said: ‘He’s very short haired but has a very bushy tail.

‘The woman we bought him from wasn’t sure what breed he is – we think he’s a mix of breeds.

‘He’s only a kitten really.’

Also waiting for Bazal’s safe return is his brother and Laura’s other cat, Bear.

Laura said: ‘He’s really stressed – he’s not eating.

‘Hopefully we will find Bazal soon.’
