Southsea Model Village has today opened the SMV Club, which owners say could well be the smallest disco on the planet.

The repurposed toolshed has a bouncer outside and disco lights on the ceiling, with three songs playing on repeat – ABBA’s Dancing Queen, Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up, and Baby Shark.

A promotional video released by the model village team showed the venue at full capacity, with roughly half a dozen people inside.

Owner Mark Wilson said: ‘It was just a stupid idea I had a few weeks ago while sat on the loo in the middle of the night, after a few glasses of rum.

‘Since everything in the model village is small, why not also have the world’s smallest disco?

‘It has turned out brilliantly, we’ve opened it to the public today and it’s already a hugely popular attraction.’

The music in the new disco can be played by pushing a big red button at the far end of the venue.

Initially built in 1956, the model village has become a mainstay along Southsea seafront, with a new 21-year lease recently being signed.

Mark said he plans to contact Guinness World Records to see if the model village can enter their prestigious hall of fame.

He said: ‘We know there is a smaller mobile disco, but we could well be the smallest static venue in the world.

‘It’s all just a bit of fun, but that plaque would look really great outside.’
