Great just got greater at the Great South Run. The unique 10 mile distance has been popular with runners of all ages and abilities for decades, but organisers are pulling out all of the stops to make this year the best yet.

New for 2022, runners can look forward to a live, start line DJ, pumping out a high energy set to help them find their groove for the challenge ahead.

Timed pacers, there to make sure runners have the best possible chance of smashing out a personal best, will be powered by music, blasting out tunes all along the course to keep motivation high.

The Run Thru Carnival, a new high energy on-course entertainment zone, gives runners the option to Run Thru or sidestep past.

Also this year, the finish line is not the end. As runners cross the line to complete their challenge they will also have the chance to enjoy an Après Run zone for the very first time. Billed as the perfect place for post-race celebrations, the afterparty will feature more great music as well as food and drink stalls, ensuring the celebrations continue long past the finish line.

Get ready for one or two post-race selfies with bigger and better medals, featuring an exclusive design that encapsulates everything that makes the area great.

All of this is in addition to the unforgettable Great South Run atmosphere and experience that runners know and love, including more than 10 on course music and entertainment zones. Here’s what else you can expect to see (and of course hear) whether you’re taking part or cheering on this year:

The popular 5k event (ages 15+) and the kids events are back on Saturday 15 October, with the Mini (ages 3-8) and Junior (ages 9-15) events taking centre stage and giving the budding running stars of the future a chance to claim their own finisher’s medal.

There is still time to join us on 15 & 16 October for an inclusive celebration of running, with music blazing, crowds buzzing, legs pumping and fists bumping. Starting and finishing on the glorious seafront, the event provides stunning running at every turn with breathtaking views of the Isle of Wight and passing iconic landmarks including the Historic Dockyard, HMS Victory and Southsea Castle.

With entertainment zones that celebrate local character, incredible crowd support, and rocking music at every mile, it’s a party atmosphere from start to finish. Find out more or enter at: greatrun.org/events/great-south-run.
