A WOMAN who was on fire at a Portsmouth petrol station is in hospital with serious burns.

The incident happened at 10.35am today at the BP in Cosham.

A police spokeswoman said: ‘We were called to a report of a concern for welfare for a woman at Cosham Filling Station on Northern Road, Portsmouth.

‘The woman was found to have suffered serious burns. She was taken to hospital for treatment. No one else has been injured and there is no wider risk to the public.’

A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue confirmed that firefighters had been called to reports that a woman was on fire at the petrol station. He said that a passing ambulance had stopped and so the fire crews checked scene over to make sure it was safe and also spoke to the public and to staff at the petrol station to make sure they were all right.
