THE Prime Minister has won a vote of confidence this evening.

Boris Johnson faced the vote in House of Parliament.

Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the 1922 Committee, announced the vote this morning in a statement: ‘The threshold of 15 per cent of the parliamentary party seeking a vote of confidence in the leader of the Conservative Party has been exceeded.

‘In accordance with the rules, a ballot will be held between 1800 and 2000 today Monday, June 6 — details to be confirmed.

‘The votes will be counted immediately afterwards. An announcement will be made at a time to be advised. Arrangements for the announcement will be released later today.’

Boris Johnson won the vote by 211 to 148.

Portsmouth South’s Labour MP Stephen Morgan, said it was time for the PM to go.

‘I think it is high time that the Tories catch up with public opinion,’ he said.

‘Today Conservative MPs need to look their constituents in the eyes and make a judgement call on whether or not they want a prime minister who respects the British people is honest and shows integrity or keeping this prime minister who has let our country down after all the sacrifices that they have made.’

Boris Johnson ‘does not believe’ he broke ministerial code

Boris Johnson does not believe he has broken the Ministerial Code of Conduct, Downing Street has said.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said Mr Johnson did not accept a claim by the Government’s anti-corruption tsar John Penrose that the Sue Gray report made clear he had violated the code and that he should resign.

“The Prime Minister addressed this last week. He set out his rationale on the code. Part of that involved correcting the parliamentary record at the earliest possible opportunity,” the spokesman said.

“The PM has set out his view in relation to the code and the fixed penalty notice that he received, both in terms of is overall response to Sue Gray but also addressing some of the points that were raised by Lord Geidt (the Prime Minister’s adviser on the code), last week.”

PM ‘will not be distracted’ by confidence vote

Boris Johnson will not be distracted from the business of government by the confidence vote by Tory MPs, Downing Street has said.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “The Prime Minister is firmly of the view that he will not be distracted from the key issues facing the UK and the world. That is illustrated by the call he had with (Ukrainian President) Zelensky this morning.

“Equally there are key domestic challenges – not least the Covid backlog, the cost-of-living pressures – I think he will be taking more action on in due course.”
