Controversial McDonald's drive-thru in Titchfield to go ahead after long-running planning application approved
Plans approved after road changes agreed
Titchfield will soon have a new McDonald’s after a planning application which was initially submitted in March 2024 was approved despite hundreds of objections.
The fast food chain will be built on the land at the junction with Southampton Road and Farm Road with the decision to approve the plans made on Tuesday, August 18. It was confirmed in May last year that the plans would be given the green light as soon as a section 106 legal agreement was entered into by the developer to ensure that road improvements took place.
That was after residents raised numerous concerns about the implications the new restaurant would have on traffic and children’s safety with the proposed restaurant situated near an air cadet training corp hub.

However, as confirmed in the section 106 agreement, the below road changes will now take place as part of the work:
- Provision of a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing including modifications to the central reservation
- Removal of the diverge/merge lane between the Abbey Park and Farm Road junctions
- Modification/widening the shared footway/cycle way between the Abbey Park and Farm Road junctions.
- Modifications to the Abbey Park junction
- Modifications to the Farm Road junction
A sum of £15,000 will be made as a contribution to costs of the County Council of implementing a traffic regulation order (TRO) to prohibit U-Turns along Southampton Road in the vicinity of the Farm Road and Abbey Park junctions.
The planning approval was for the construction of a freestanding restaurant/takeaway with drive thru facility, car parking, landscaping and associated works, including customer order displays. The developer now has three years to begin the work in the area however the road improvements need to be completed before the site is brought into use.
