The MF zone in Southsea will be extended to include Bruce Road, a section of the north side of Eastern Parade, Elizabeth Gardens, Festing Road, Helena Road, Salisbury Road and Spencer Road.

During a virtual meeting last week the city council's transport boss, Councillor Lynne Stagg, approved the move following feedback from residents in the area for which 68 per cent of respondents were in favour and 29 per cent were against.

MF parking zone approved for Portsmouth

The existing MF zone was approved in February this year and is bordered by St Ronan's Road, Festing Road, Albert Road and St Helen's Parade.

Speaking at the decision meeting Cllr Matthew Winnington said: 'Anecdotally I've spoken to a huge amount of people over many many years especially in Spencer, Helena and Bruce Roads who have been very keen to have parking zones in this area.'

However, Tory Cllr Luke Stubbs believed concessions needed to be made in areas where there are GP surgeries. 'I am also thinking of the surgery in Waverley Road,' he said.

'There's one bay for doctors but it's within the MD zone and if you have an appointment within the MD times of operation you're rather snookered.

'There should be discussions with the GP's consortium.'

The MF zone will allow only residents with permits to park in the road between 11am and midday, and 6pm and 7pm.

During the meeting it was also agreed to make all properties along Grove Road South in Southsea eligible for permits in the KD zone.
