Portsmouth MP writes to government to ask for more funding to help the homeless

PORTSMOUTH South MP Flick Drummond will be writing to the chancellor to urge extra funding to help rough sleepers in the city.

She said: ‘Homelessness is an issue in Portsmouth, with the latest figures showing that 418 households that were accepted as homeless and in priority need and 15 people were found to be sleeping rough.

‘So I very much welcome the announcement of £115m to support rough sleepers and to help those in hostels move into permanent accommodation – something they can struggle to achieve.

‘I will be writing to the chancellor to find out how much of this money can be made available for Portsmouth.’

She wants to work with Portsmouth City Council on the issue. The city has more than 200 supported housing units for homeless people as well as emergency beds.
