Make a real difference today with five simple steps to back Portsmouth's City of Culture bid
City rallies support behind the We Are Pompey 2029 banner
Portsmouth needs YOU to ‘make a real difference’ to its bid to be the UK’s City of Culture.
Work is continuing at pace to pull together the city’s official submission which will hopefully move the bid from the current long list to the short list. With the deadline fast-approaching on August 10 everything is being done to ensure as many people as possible can get behind the bid - under the banner of We Are Pompey 2029 - and add their ideas.
In recent weeks this has seen the launch of the ‘Pompey People’ - well-known city champions who embody the spirit, creativity and diversity of the city who are helping to bring the city’s cultural and creative story to life. These have been featured on portsmouth.co.uk and in The News every day over the past two weeks and will continue until the bid is in.

But the push for City of Culture is focused on ensuring it is for everyone to be a part of and so the call has gone out for everybody to get involved - and there are five simple steps everyone can take today to support it.
- Go to the wearepompey2029.co.uk website
- Follow @WeArePompey2029 on social media
- Sign up for updates and share the campaign with friends and family
- Via the website, tell the bid team what makes Portsmouth special to you
- Download the We Are Pompey 2029 poster, e-banner and digital assets to encourage your workplace, school, community group or organisation to get involved
Gemma Nichols, CEO of Portsmouth Creates - which is leading the City of Culture campaign - said: ‘The bid belongs to all of us in Portsmouth and your support can make a real difference.’

As part of the push to involve as many voices and capture as many ideas as possible, a series of ‘communi-tea’ events have been staged by the bid team. The latest was Putting the Kettle On for Portsmouth's Future at the Fratton Community Centre.
Residents gathered to share memories, ideas and hopes for Portsmouth's future over a cuppa.
‘From treasured memories to bold ambitions, every conversation helps shape a bid that belongs to the people of Portsmouth,’ added Gemma.
