'Absolute beast. I’ve seen enough': Portsmouth faithful all say same thing as rising Fratton star makes mark

Pompey loanee Toby Steward is continuing to impress with Scottish Premiership St Johnstone - and his performances have got the Fratton faithful talking...

Pompey stopper Toby Steward continues to impress on loan with St Johnstone as his development accelerates in the Scottish Premiership.

And his recent displays have sparked conversations amongst the Fratton faithful on social media over a potential January recall by the Blues.

The 21-year-old, who penned a new three-year deal on the south-coast in the summer, has been a standout performer at McDiarmid Park after Simo Valakari’s side won the race to re-sign the young talent for the campaign.

Steward, of course, enjoyed a brilliant season with St Johnstone last term, before returning on a season-long agreement in July.

Since then, the stopper has established himself as one of the leading keepers in the division as he tops the goalkeeping charts in Scotland’s top flight.

The Pompey loanee is leading the way with 52 saves in the Scottish Premiership, eight more than Falkirk’s Scott Bain, who occupies second.

His outstanding displays have helped the Saints up to eighth in the standings, which has also seen him keep three clean sheets in 15 appearances in all competitions.

And with Steward’s development accelerating north of the border, the Fratton faithful are already calling for Pompey to recall the academy graduate in January.

In fact, many are adamant the 21-year-old will become Mousinho’s number one next term.

Here’s the best of the reaction from X.

@daniel_son79: Zero excuses for him not to be #1 next season.

@BlueArmyAlex: It was a good decision to loan him back to St Johnstone. Pompey He returns to a familiar environment at a high level, while a newly promoted team are more likely to face shots on goal which will mentally test him and make him a better keeper. Future No.1.

@PhilH1977: It’s time for Toby to be number one next season.

@blakepfc: Get him back in Jan.

@ChrisPalmer37: I’d keep quiet if I were you mate, the way our first choice is playing we might need him back in January!

@Antni_b: Glad he’s doing well. Can see us calling him back in January if we have a shake up.

@CharJames111477: Looks like he will be a first team starter for us next season. I know the Championship is a big step up from the SPL but I think he will do well

@itspompey86: Absolute beast in goal that boy, next year's number 1.

@HarvMarksy: I’ve seen enough. Bring him back. Number 1 is yours.

@joe121099: An almost 7 minute compilation and it’s not even November yet? Bring. Him. Back.

@PFCOlly: We’re only gonna have him as our number 1 for 1 season aren’t we…

@mjwmacca: I simply adore him.

@StassSportsNews: Think my tweets before the season started is proving to be right… This boy should be #Pompey number 1. Most saves in the SPL. Showing that we have not just a prospect, but a Championship ready GK. Surely there’s a January clause for a recall. Exercise it. Simple.
