Spectators left wowed by mini Great South Run

Today's Great South Run mini run may have been centred on colour, costume and cheer but the junior races were all about raw speed.

And Portsmouth’s own talented youngsters played an impressive part in wowing spectators gathered alongside Southsea seafront to watch the thrilling boys and girls races.

Tackling a 2.5k course, Saffron Moore, 14, led the way for City of Portsmouth Athletics Club with a superb third-placed finish in the girls race.

Inspired by City team-mate Moore, Joshua Goldfinch also earned a prestigious podium place, finishing runner-up in the subsequent boys race.

Tackling the heat promised to be a tough ask but Moore and Goldfinch were two of many to make light work of the conditions on a glorious day on the south coast.
