‘A mechanism on the track which changes which way trains travel at junctions has failed, leaving the junction stuck in the direction it was pointed at the time.

‘As a result, trains are unable to travel directly from Cosham to Hilsea.

‘Trains may still move from Hilsea to Cosham, and also from Cosham to Bedhampton. Some affected services will terminate and restart back at Fareham, others may travel to Bedhampton and then turn back towards Hilsea.’

It added: ‘Engineers are on their way to site to investigate the issue, and more updates will be provided when known.

‘We are sorry for the disruption this morning.’
