British Transport Police working to find family after person hit by train in Chichester dies

POLICE are working to find the family of a person who died after being hit by a train this morning.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said: ‘Officers were called to the line in Chichester shortly after 7am following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics also attended however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

All lines have now reopened but trains between Havant and Barnham stations may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 15 minutes or diverted to Bognor Regis as normal service resumes.

Disruption is expected until 3pm.

Southern rail tickets can be used on the Stagecoach bus route number 700 that runs from Bognor Regis to Chichester then onwards to Havant.

Rail replacement buses are also running between Chichester and Havant, and Chichester and Bognor Regis.

From Havant, Southern ticket will be accepted on South Western Railway trains to Fratton and Portsmouth and customers will need to change at Fratton for trains towards Southampton.

Southern tickets can also be used on South Western Railway trains between Southampton Central, Portsmouth, Havant, and London Waterloo with changes at Guildford for trains towards Gatwick Airport and changes at Clapham Junction for trains towards East Croydon and London Victoria.
