Delays on M27, A27 and A3(M) as council warns of backlog from temporary traffic lights

DRIVERS on the M27, A27 and A3(M) are facing lengthy delays this morning after temporary traffic lights were installed because of a collapsed manhole.

The measure was put in place on Newgate Lane in Fareham yesterday, between Gosport Road and the Longfield Avenue roundabout.

Hampshire County Council warned the measure could cause rush-hour delays, and live traffic maps from Google currently show congestion spanning south to Lee-on-the-Solent on Newgate Lane and east to Waterlooville on the A3(M).

The service does not appear to indicate any accidents which are causing the westbound delays.

Hampshire County Council said yesterday: ‘Hampshire Highways have set up two-way temporary traffic lights on Fareham’s Newgate Lane, between Gosport Rd and Longfield Ave roundabout, due to collapsed manhole.

‘Delays likely especially during rush hour tomorrow (24 Feb) Urgent repair has been ordered.’
