In a tweet, the Roads Policing Unit said: ‘This driver has had a lucky escape this morning after aquaplaning on the A3 southbound carriageway, near to the Queen Elizabeth Country Park.

‘Please slow down when driving in wet conditions.’

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said police contacted paramedics at 6.15am, with the driver being rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham for treatment.
