Part of A27 closed after serious accident

Part of the A27 near Emsworth was closed this morning after two people died in a crash overnight.

Accident investigation work was carried out following the collision which happened late last night on the eastbound carriageway between the A259 Emsworth and Fishbourne junctions.

The road was closed for about nine hours but reopened at about 8am this morning – but delays are still building.

This morning Sussex Police confirmed two women had been killed in the crash, and four others had been injured. Read our latest story here.

Highways England and police have been at the scene with traffic being diverted onto neighbouring routes.

Firefighters from Cosham and Havant were among those who were called out at about 10.30pm last night.

Motorists were encouraged to follow the diversions, which include the A259 through Emsworth and Nutbourne.

Stagecoach bus services were also diverted along the A259, including the 700 service.
