Portsmouth weather: Heatwave and high temperatures forecast by Met Office - how hot is it going to be?

Hot temperatures have been forecast for Portsmouth today with the Met Office warning a heatwave was on its way.

The forecaster declared a mini heatwave with parts of the South of England with temperatures set to rocket, with the rain from earlier this week set to be long forgotten.

Summer conditions have been blighted by showers over the last few months. Below is a Met Office breakdown of how warm it is going to be:

Today (July 19)

Bright sunshine is forecast throughout the day with clear skies. Temperatures are expected to rise up to a peak of 25C, between 2pm and 6pm. This will gradually fall to 19C by 10pm. Wind speeds are set to reach 21mph, with varying levels of UV and humidity expected. BBC Weather said it will be sunny with a gentle breeze.

Saturday (July 20)

The forecaster predicts a very warm night in the early hours of Saturday. Temperatures are set to remain at 18C, and will settle at 20C throughout the day. Cloudy conditions have been predicted, with a greater chance of showers in the evening.

Light rain is expected between 7pm and 8pm, with the grey skies expected to stay until Sunday morning.

Sunday (July 21)

Sunday is predicted to be cooler than the previous two days. Temperatures are forecast to be as low as 16C in the morning, and then rise to 21C by 1pm.

Wind speeds are set to be as high as 29mph. Clouds are expected to break further into the afternoon, with sunny and clear skies predicted throughout the day
