Storm Ciara: Fresh weather warning issued for across the Portsmouth area

The Met Office has now put a yellow alert in place for between 10am and 7pm on Monday for Portsmouth and the south coast.

An amber weather warning is also in place for Sunday.

Forecasters are predicting that a ‘swathe of very strong winds are likely’ throughout the day on February 10.

On its website, the Met Office wrote: ‘Although it will remain widely rather windy in the wake of Storm Ciara, a further swathe of very strong winds is possible across the far south of England during Monday.

‘Gusts of 60-70 mph could develop quite widely over parts of SW England during Monday morning, before moving east through the afternoon to affect other exposed coastal parts of southern England.

‘Large waves are expected along the coasts, with a small chance of localised coastal flooding.’

The Met Office warns residents that they could expect the following on Monday:

- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely

- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

- It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves

Motorists are being warned to take extra care on the road’s across the Portsmouth area on Sunday including on the M27 between junction 9 and junction 8.
