A WEATHER warning for wind is in place across the area for today.

The Met Office’s yellow alert came into force at 4am and remains in place until 6pm.

On its website, the Met Office says: ‘Strong winds on Friday are expected to lead to some travel disruption and perhaps some temporary power disruption.

‘Wind gusts of 45-50 mph are expected fairly widely inland with gusts of 55-60 mph possible around coasts and over hills.

‘Winds are then expected to gradually ease during late afternoon and evening.’

It is already blustery in the city this morning – but when will the winds be strongest?

Here is what the forecast says

Portsmouth

Winds will reach speeds of 44mph and 45mph in the city between 11am and 2pm.

However the gusts will remain above 40mph from 8am until 4pm.

The wind will stay at speeds of above 30mph for the rest of the day.

Gosport

The winds will be strongest at around noon in Gosport – when gusts will reach speeds of 44mph.

From 8am onwards the winds will be in excess of 40mph until 4pm, and will remain above 30mph for the rest of the day.

Fareham

The winds will be strongest at around 11am in Fareham – and gusts will reach speeds of 44mph.

The gales will remain above 40mph throughout the morning and afternoon until 4pm.

Gusts will stay at speeds of above 30mph for the rest of the day.

Havant

The winds will be strongest at around 1pm in Havant – when gusts will reach speeds of 44mph.

From 8am onwards the winds will be in excess of 40mph until 4pm, and will remain above 30mph for the rest of the day.

Waterlooville

The winds will be strongest at 11am and at 2pm in Waterlooville – when gusts will reach speeds of 43mph.

Gales will remain above 40mph until 4pm and above 30mph for the rest of the day.

Hayling Island

The winds will be strongest at 2pm in Hayling Island – and gusts will reach speeds of 44mph at this time, according to the forecast.

The gales will remain above 40mph throughout the morning and afternoon until 4pm.

Gusts will stay at speeds of above 30mph for the rest of the day.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue warned on social media: ‘A yellow weather warning for strong winds has been issued across Hampshire.

‘Be mindful of spray or large waves if you're by the seafront.

‘Damage to trees with debris on roads are possible. Report road blockages by calling 101.’
