THE Met Office has issued a 36 hour yellow weather alert, warning of heavy rainfall across the region.

The warning has been put in place for 6pm on Sunday to 6am on Tuesday, across large swathes of southern England, including Hampshire, with the Met Office saying rain could be ‘heavy and persistent at times’, and is expected to disrupt travel.

While the temperature is expected to warmer after days of freezing temperatures, the warning said: ‘Periods of rain are expected to become persistent and at times heavy across parts of southern England and south Wales late Sunday, lasting through Monday, before clearing early Tuesday. For the area across southern England, 25-50 mm of rain will fall widely, but the highest rainfall totals are likely to be across the higher ground of Sussex and Dorset, where locally 50-80 mm of rain may fall.’

However, the south west is expected to bear the brunt with Dartmoor potentially seeing more than 150mm of rain over the period.
