Young stunt riders raise charity cash

THEIR displays pull in hundreds of people.

Now tots and teenage riders’ impressive stunts have raised £2,000 for charity.

Members of the Tigers Children’s Motorcycle Display Team handed over cheques yesterday at their training ground at Daedalus airfield, Lee-on-the-Solent.

The 22 youngsters picked Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal, set up to send terminally-ill children and their families on breaks, and bereavement charity Grief Encounter.

‘The £1,000 for us will see four terminally-sick children at one of our holiday homes,’ said Pam Marshall, whose daughter Hannah Westbrook died in 2004 of Hodgkin’s lymphoma aged 10.

Thanking the Tigers, she added: ‘Those guys are absolutely amazing.

‘When they said they were going to sponsor us, we came and watched a fantastic display.’

Yesterday at the training ground the Tigers again showed their impressive moves, making jumps from ramps.

All the cash was raised at shows between May and September this year. The team will spend until May training for the next season of shows.

Nat Hockey, 15, from Fareham, is in his 10th season at the club, having started aged just five.

He said: ‘It’s good to help the kids, which is worthwhile.’

His mum Libby Hockey said the youngsters get a lot out of taking part in shows.

The 53-year-old, of Hilson Drive, Fareham, said: ‘It teaches the kids teamwork and teaches them to be a bit more controlling on the bike.

‘Kids who are very shy and not very confident, the Tigers shows takes them out their shells.’

Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal has three homes in Ringwood, Hayling Island and Milford-on-Sea.

The cash raised will fund four families’ trips. Around 129 have stayed at the homes this year.
