A new HP printer could come with months of free ink, but customers have just seven days after setup to unlock the full promotional offer.

Bought a shiny new HP printer? Don’t start shopping for replacement cartridges just yet. You could be entitled to as much as nine months of free ink — but there’s a catch that could trip up unsuspecting customers.

The limited-time offer gives eligible new HP printer owners the chance to extend their free Instant Ink trial by three months. With some printers already offering a six-month trial, that could take the total free period to a very tempting nine months.

But customers need to move quickly.

The crucial rule is that you must enrol in HP Instant Ink within seven days of setting up your printer. Miss that window and you may miss out on the bonus months, even if you bought the printer while the promotion was running.

To claim the extra time, enter the promotional code SUMMER26UKI when registering for Instant Ink. The code adds three months to the trial included with an eligible printer.

The deal is particularly handy for families and students facing a mountain of printing as the new academic year gets underway. Whether it’s homework, university assignments, revision notes or forms, having replacement cartridges delivered automatically could save a last-minute trip to the shops.

Instant Ink operates differently from traditional printer ownership. Instead of buying cartridges whenever they run dry, customers choose a monthly page allowance. The printer monitors ink levels and HP sends replacement cartridges when needed.

There’s another quirk: every printed page counts the same. A single full-colour photograph counts as one page, just like a page of ordinary black-and-white text.

The promotion runs until 11.59pm on 31 October 2026, but don’t confuse that with the seven-day registration deadline.

And remember, this isn’t free ink forever. Instant Ink becomes a paid subscription once the promotional period ends, unless you cancel. Customers should therefore check the available plans, expected printing needs and cancellation terms before signing up.

In short: if you’ve just installed a new eligible HP printer, the clock is ticking.
