AFC Portchester leave it late to book place in FA Cup first qualifying round

AFC Portchester and Baffins Milton Rovers progress in FA Cup

AFC Portchester booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup with a dramatic win over Westbury United on Tuesday night.

Gavin Spurway’s side advanced to the first qualifying round of the famous old competition thanks to Archie Willcox’s winner late into extra-time against the Southern League Divsion One South side.

The defender got on to the end of a Hail Mary free-kick with just seconds remaining on the clock to book the Royals a tie against Portland United in the next round.

Willcox’s effort was the only goal of the replay, with the game finishing 0-0 at full-time.

The replay at Meadow Lane was required after the two teams’ initial fixture ended in a 2-2 draw at the OnSite Group Stadium.

Joining the Royals in the first qualifying round are Baffins Milton Rovers, who beat Hartney Witney 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Beau Mullins’ second-half penalty earned them the win and a home tie against Slimbridge in the next round.

All first-round qualifying games will take place across the weekend of Saturday, September 5.
