Some Blues fans have called on Kenny Jackett to try to sign the 23-year-old on a permanent basis.

Thompson was on the periphery of things at Millwall before arriving at Pompey.

Nevertheless, Harris has insisted the Sidcup-born talent is on loan at Fratton Park to bolster his chances of becoming a Lions first-team regular down the line.

The Millwall boss told londonnewsonline.co.uk: '˜Ben is at Portsmouth to be part of Kenny Jackett's squad and to learn under Kenny.

'˜The aim is for him to get valuable game time at a level we know he is very good at.

'˜Once his loan finishes he has to come back and become a regular in our first team.

'˜My thought process on that hasn't changed and won't change.

'˜Ben is a super lad and a great Millwall player of the future.'
