Regardless, Hollands declared himself fit for the return leg at Home Park on Sunday evening.

However, he had to be substituted on 44 minutes as the problem flared up on landing following a header.

The 30-year-old joined team-mate Gareth Evans in limping out of the action during the first-half as Pompey went on to suffer an injury-time defeat.

Hollands is presently wearing a protective boot, although it is believed an operation is unlikely to be required.

Reassuringly, the injury is on the opposite leg to the one he broke in January’s FA Cup draw at Ipswich Town.

Meanwhile, the former Bournemouth player is waiting to start negotiations on a fresh Fratton Park deal.

The two-year contract he signed in May 2014 expires next month and boss Paul Cook wants to keep him at the club.

Hollands will now meet chief executive Mark Catlin and finance director Tony Brown for talks over a fresh deal.

He made 39 outings for the Blues this season, establishing himself as a regular in Cook’s side.

It takes his tally to 94 appearances and seven goals since initially joining on loan from Charlton Athletic in March 2014.
