Pompey have bolstered their striking options by recruiting Conor Wilkinson until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old Bolton player recently spent two months on loan at Newport County, scoring once in 12 appearances.

During that spell he faced Paul Cook’s side earlier this month, coming off the bench in the Exiles’ 3-0 win at Fratton Park.

He has also turned out for Barnsley in the current campaign, again netting once in 12 appearances.

However, Wilkinson will not be available for Pompey’s two-match Easter programme, instead he is representing the Republic of Ireland’s under-21s.

His arrival will fill the gap to be created by Michael Smith’s return to Swindon ahead of the final match of the season against Northampton when his permitted 93-day loan ends.

Wilkinson, though, will be available for the League Two play-offs, should the Blues qualify.
