Cook is pleased with how his team are gearing up for the new season as the tempo begins to build ahead of the League Two curtain raiser with Carlisle.

He said: ‘It’s great and we’re excited.

‘The Bristol City game (tomorrow, 3pm) is there and we want to go away from home and be tested like you wouldn’t believe.

‘Then we can have a great week building up to Carlisle.

‘As we go into this season I’m delighted with the squad and the 12 months’ experience we have.’
