Bromley boss issues challenge to Portsmouth loanee Reeco Hackett-Fairchild

Reeco Hackett-Fairchild has been told he's going to have to 'work hard' if he's to win a starting spot at Bromley.

The Pompey forward returned to Hayes Lane on loan in September.

Hackett-Fairchild, 22, made just one appearance for the Blues after his arrival, though, and failed to be included in a match-day squad this season before his temporary departure.

He has recently returned to full fitness, coming off the bench in Bromley's past two matches.

Neil Smith's side were victorious in both of those – against Sutton United and Weymouth - and he may not change things for tomorrow's National League clash against Eastleigh.

And the Bromley boss admitted Hackett-Fairchild faces a challenge to break his way into his starting XI if the Ravens continue to pick up wins.

Speaking to Bromley's Youtube channel, Smith said: ‘Reeco is getting back to his fitness, hopefully Billy Bingham and Joe Kizzi won't be too far behind. So the strength in depth is getting back.

‘But what you don't want to be doing is putting in performances where I'm playing him.

‘You want to be playing well so you keep them out (of the team) for as long as you can.

‘I like that competition for places. There is competition and to get into that side then you are going to have to work hard.’

Hackett-Fairchild is under contract at Pompey until June 2022, with the club holding the option for an additional 12 months.
