The 23-year-old said he was ‘buzzing’ to be back at Hayes Lanes for a third time, after enduring a difficult couple of months at Fratton Park.

On Monday night Hackett-Fairchild sealed a temporary return to the National League outfit until January 3, with the Blues holding a recall option after an initial 28-day period.

It sees him head back to the side who sold him to Pompey back in January for an undisclosed fee.

With just one senior Blues appearance to his name in since then, it’s understandable why the move suits both the club and the player.

And as Hackett-Fairchild anticipated sticking on a Bromley shirt once more, he admitted he couldn’t wait to kick-start his playing career.

In a Twitter post, the former Charlton youngster said: ‘Can’t wait to get going and enjoying my football again. Lets go!’

He then followed that comment up by telling Bromley’s website that this is where he wanted to be after a ‘tough’ time at Fratton Park.

‘It’s been tough the last nine months with no football but I can’t wait to get back, get started again and win some games and score some goals,’ Hackett-Fairchild added.

‘It is somewhere I admire. It is somewhere I have come and enjoyed each spell I’ve spent at the Club, I can’t fault it.

‘It was the first place I wanted to come to at this level, I’m buzzing to be back.’

Before moving to Pompey, Hackett-Fairchild scored eight goals in 25 appearances for Bromley during the 2019-20 season.

Yet he struggled to establish himself at the Blues, with his solitary appearance coming at Walsall in the EFL Trophy a day after he arrived.

The forward was not included in any of Pompey match-day squads for their first five matches of the season.

And last week Kenny Jackett told The News that Hackett-Fairchild was frustrated with his lack of opportunities and was keen to exit Pompey on a temporary basis.

He said: ‘It’s tough for Reeco and he would 100 per cent want to go out on loan, yes,

‘He had a good pre-season and has in recent weeks got over his injury and looks sharp in training.

‘But would he want to go on loan? Yes, he would.

‘It’s a situation where we’ve had a month to assess that and we’ll see who comes in.

‘Obviously, in the end we have to consider Reeco’s situation, but we also have to make sure we get things right for the club.

‘He is one that would be frustrated, however, because he wants to play football.

‘I think someone where he plays is what we want. He’s more than capable of attracting interest if we decided to let him go.’

It was reported elsewhere that Hull, Colchester and Bolton were all keen on Hackett-Fairchild’s services.
