The 2019-20 season is on hold until April 4 at the earliest due to the coronavirus outbreak.

This could yet be extended, though, with the EFL set to meet again later this week to discuss developments in tackling Covid-19 amid government updates.

At present, there are no indications the season will be prematurely ended and declared null and void – something West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady suggested at the weekend.

It’s understood both the EFL and clubs are committed to completing the postponed fixtures, even if that means extending the season end into June or July.

But that hasn’t stopped MacAnthony going on social media to explain how legal action would be his ‘next step’ if the current campaign is abolished.

Like fourth-placed Pompey (60 points), Posh are in the thick of the promotion race and sit a point behind the Blues in sixth place.

Both clubs have eight games remaining, with the potential of play-off games also to be thrown into the mix.

And the Posh chairman insisted he would not hesitate in taking legal action if their remaining fixtures were cancelled.

Posting on Twitter, he said: ‘A serious lawsuit would be my next step if voided happened but way too early for all that.

‘Let’s focus on coming days/weeks ensuring we all responsibly look after our elders/those seriously affected & stay away from crowd environments etc & follow guidelines laid out.’

When asked if a lawsuit would be a success, MacAnthony replied: ‘Considering there would be a **** load of clubs joining me in it, I’d fancy our chances to reverse any such decision.’
