It appears the homegrown man’s future could hinge on what happens with Steve Seddon, with the Birmingham man a wanted man after an explosive loan stay at Fratton Park.

But the door is being left open for Haunstrup to remain at Fratton Park this summer with his existing deal at a close.

The 23-year-old has made 19 appearances this season, scoring in the televised FA Cup win at Harrogate.

That’s as part of 57 outings since making the first-team breakthrough as a teenager in 2015.

Haunstrup has found his path blocked to consistent first-team action by Lee Brown and now Seddon, although there’s been runs of games for him in Kenny Jackett’s three years at PO4.

There still appears to be a number of different permutations to how Pompey’s options could look at left-back next season.

Seddon is a primary target after shining in the 17 appearances he’s made since arriving from St Andrews in Janaury.

The 22-year-old’s keen on a permanent move, but his future appears be tied to what will unfold with Birmingham’s Kristian Pedersen.

Pedersen has been one of the Championship’s standout players this season with talk of Premier League suitors.

Birmingham were already in financial difficulties before the football season was suspended amid the coronavirus crisis.

Another factor is Seddon was out of favour under manager Pep Clotet in the midlands, but the Spaniard is now leaving the club in the summer.

Pompey have held discussions with Brown with his contract up in the summer after joining from Bristol Rovers in 2018.
