Ex-Portsmouth striker completes expected switch to Eastleigh

The Warsash ace has penned a two-year deal at the Silverlake Stadium after leaving Bognor.

However, a tribunal will need to rule how much compensation is due to the Rocks for the transfer.

Smith left Fratton Park last summer having made two appearances for Kenny Jackett's side.

The forward opted to join Bognor, after spending the first half of the 2018-19 season on loan at the club.

Smith enjoyed a prolific campaign at Nyewood Lane, netting 26 goals before the Isthmian League premier division season was declared null and void amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

The 20-year-old outlined his ambition to return to the Football League when speaking to The Newsearlier this year.

Now he's just one division away from achieving that goal after joining National League Eastleigh.

Smith told the Spirfires’ website: ‘Eastleigh feels like the perfect move for me at this point in my career, especially being a local lad.

‘I’m ready to test myself at this level and believe I can score goals and play well in the team the gaffer is building.

‘I can’t wait to get started now and I’m really excited to see what we can achieve this season.’

The compensation fee which the clubs have not been able to agree on is due because Smith is under 24 and Bognor had offered him terms for next season no worse than those he was already on
