Hide AdPitman was released by Pompey earlier this summer, having found himself out of favour for much of his final season at Fratton Park.
He had a period training with Bournemouth's under-21s following the turn of the year, while he wasn't required to return for duty ahead of the Blues' play-off semi-final defeat to Oxford.
Pitman penned a one-year deal at League One rivals Swindon earlier this month.

Hide AdAnd the Robins boss believes Pitman brings plenty of nous to his attack.
Wellens told BBC Wiltshire: ‘Pitman helps you. We thought there would be a lot of crosses into the box.
‘Pitman's obviously experienced and has game knowledge of where to go and when to go.
‘His physicality is different when we play high balls. He leans into defenders, he's really good at using his body.

Hide Ad‘We spoke about cutbacks and know their centre-backs like to retreat to the edge of the six-yard box.
‘We spoke to the players that if they get into the position, can you find a cutback?
‘Luckily they did and it was a great finish from him. I have to say, his finishing in training has been outstanding.’
