The Championship side have been without a manager following Jason Tindall’s dismissal last week.

That saw Woodgate take over the reins, having only days earlier been appointed senior first-team coach.

Now he will be assisted by Redknapp for an unspecified period of time.

‘He's asked me to come in for a few days and watch them train, just to be around the place for a few days, help keep my eye on things for him.’

Redknapp has been out of management since leaving Championship Birmingham in September 2017.

His second spell as Pompey boss ended in October 2008 when he quit for Spurs.
