In total, he scored 42 goals in 99 appearances – but fell out of favour towards the end of his Blues career.

Pitman was exiled to train with AFC Bournemouth's under-21s following the turn of the year and left out of 12 successive matches.

He was then not required to return to training for Pompey's play-off campaign after curtailment of the season amid the Covid-19 crisis.

The former Bristol City marksman was unsurprisingly released by Kenny Jackett at the end of his contract earlier this summer.

He was wanted by Swindon during the January transfer window, but a deal failed to come to fruition.

Wellens has admitted he’s short of forward options as Swindon prepare for a return to League One.

Now the arrival of Pitman will help bolster their attacking threat.
