The former Blues keeper has moved to the Premier League outfit on a five-year-deal after a fee of £12m plus add-ons was agreed with Manchester City.

City have also negotiated a 20-per-cent sell-on fee for the Republic of Ireland international, while a buy-back clause has also been included in the 20-year-old’s St Mary’s Contract.

In signing for Ralf Hasenhüttl’s side Bazunu will become only the 13th player this century to represent both Pompey and Southampton, having made 46 appearances for Danny Cowley’s side last season while on loan from the newly-crowned Premier League champions.

Speaking after signing on the dotted line for Southampton, the Dubliner told the club website: ‘I’m delighted to be here. It’s been in the works for a few weeks and I’m really happy that we’ve got everything over the line, and I’m just excited to see what’s ahead.‘I feel like it’s a place I can come and develop and learn my game.

‘The biggest thing is opportunity – the fact that I can come here and have a chance to play regular football.

‘Just to be given that opportunity to fight for my place is the biggest thing that I could’ve asked for.’
